This week in Sunday school

Sunday, October 12th

On this Thanksgiving Sunday, we’ll be exploring stories Jesus told about Being Bread (him) and Being Salt (us)! It will also be one of our much-loved kitchen Sundays, as we bake bread together. At the end of the service, we will take some time to bring the bounty of our last year of creativity to display in the church - stained glass, icons, banners, prayerbooks, and more!

On the second and fourth Sundays of each month, Sunday School will be in person at St. Matthias’. We’re conscious of the need to maintain cleanliness and good ventilation, and we’re asking our families to do their part, too! We encourage anyone with a fever to stay home, and runny noses will be required to wear masks. We have our own pediatric masks available for anyone who develops a need during Sunday School, too. For more information about our in-person plan, drop us a line!

This semester, we’re spending time with stories Jesus told - and stories about Jesus! - in line with the lectionary. As we follow the liturgical calendar through our celebration of festivals like the Season of Creation, Thanksgiving, All Saints, Advent, and Christmas, we’ll discover the ways that the different seasons of our life as a community teach us lessons we can use in our whole lives.

We’re also looking for volunteers to come and spend time with the Sunday School so that Janet and Jessica can take alternate Sundays off. If you’re interested in being part of our little community, please get in touch with Fr. Patrick.

Sunday, September 28th

The story Jesus told about Different Workers, Same Vineyard was our entry-point into a discussion about how God thinks about fairness. To go with this heady topic, we tested our luck with some unconventional racing techniques, did tasks in teams, and creatively connected the bounty of a vineyard harvest with ways that we have been (and can be!) generous to everyone in our lives.

Sunday, October 26th

As we gear up for one of our favourite holidays of the year (the Feast of All Saints, of course!), we’ll be asking what it is we can learn from the lives of people who have gone before us. We’ll play saint-themed games, read and write icons, and explore the stories of some of the most important - and some of the most obscure! - saints of the Christian tradition.
